IRB and IACUC Fees
November 30, 2008
In an effort to sustain current levels of service to the Rutgers research community, and to continue Rutgers compliance with federal regulations, new charges related to animal research and care will be implemented January 1, 2009.
The requirement to review animal and human research protocols is an unfunded federal mandate. No funds are made available to the institution for the expenses incurred; federal F&A analysis does not permit the inclusion of regulatory review overhead in rate negotiations.
Therefore as of January 1, 2009, an IACUC fee of $1,700 will be charged for each new industry-sponsored animal research protocol. (This charge is the same as the IRB fee charged for new industry-sponsored human protocols which has been in place since December 2007.)
IACUC charges will be limited to new, industry-sponsored protocols. Federal, foundation and other non-industry sponsors will not be affected. Protocols on existing awards will not be affected.
