Hands-on Training
ORSP has scheduled more hands-on training sessions in the use
of Grants.gov to prepare grant applications. Although these sessions will focus
on the application kit required for the NIH RO1 program, this application kit is
similar to those used by other sponsors.
The workshops will take place in the
Allison Road Classroom (ARC) Computer Lab, #119 so seating is limited to
27 participants per class. If you register and subsequently can not attend,
please cancel your registration so that others may attend. After you register,
you will receive an email from ORSP with additional class information and
requirements.
The workshops on Cook Campus will take in Computer Lab Room
No.124 located in Foran Hall.
To register, go to

Christopher
Greer from the National Science Foundation’s Office of Cyberinfrastructure will
give a talk Wed, Feb 7 at 2pm in CoRE 601 (http://maps.rutgers.edu/building.aspx?id=88)
The future of digital information in science and education:
The talk will give an overview of NSF’s strategy for access to and preservation
of scientific data. The talk is relevant to researchers that collect, archive or
analyze data in the sciences and engineering and to researchers in the
computing, communications, and information sciences.
Dr. Greer received his PhD degree in biochemistry from the University of
California, Berkeley, did postdoctoral work at CalTech, and was a tenured
faculty member at the University of California, Irvine before joining the
National Science Foundation. He is currently Program Director with
responsibility for digital data activities in the Office of Cyberinfrastructure.
Dr. Greer recently served as Executive Secretary for the Long-lived Digital Data
Collections Activities of the National Science Board and is currently Co-Chair
of the Digital Data Interagency Working Group of the National Science and

EntrepreneurshipWeek USA at Rutgers
"Promoting the possibilities of commercialization to faculty."
Friday, March 2, 2007, 9:30 am - 2:00 pm
Computing, Research, and Education (CoRE) Building
Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ
Co-sponsored by the Office of the Vice President
for Research and Graduate and Professional Education and the
New Jersey Center
for Biomaterials
From February 24 to March 3, 2007, entrepreneurs, educators, community leaders
and young people across the US will celebrate the power of entrepreneurship and
ignite the nation’s consciousness about the importance of being
entrepreneurial. Spearheaded by
the Kauffman
Foundation, this event engages more than 200 universities and colleges to
think entrepreneurially and to inspire them to take on their big ideas.
Within this context, we have organized a special event to bring key leaders in
the field to Rutgers University to provide an educational background and
practical information on how faculty can impact society by commercializing their
academic inventions. The event will
include a light lunch and poster session and will feature the following talks:
-
Opening
Remarks.
-
Dr. Richard Caruso, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Integra
LifeSciences -
The entrepreneur: Is he/she born or educated?
-
Dr. Joachim Kohn, Director of the New Jersey Center for
Biomaterials and Board of Governors Professor of Chemistry and Chemical
Biology -
Commericalization strategies for faculty: From a simple licensing deal to
the creation of a start-up company
-
G. Robert Marcus, Chairman of the Management Committee, Norris
Mclaughlin & Marcus, PA -
How do I
fund my company?
-
Dr. Sherrie Preische, Executive Director of the New Jersey

Human Biological Data Interchange: DNA and Cells Available
for Research
The Human Biological Data Interchange (HBDI) was
established in 1988 with a mission to facilitate research into the genetics of
type 1 diabetes, its complications and related disorders. HBDI provides approved
scientists with access to:
· The HBDI Catalog - a compilation of 503 highly
characterized family pedigrees with B-lymphoblastoid cell lines and DNA
available for research from key members. In many cases information such as HLA
typing and autoantibody data is available in addition to the detailed medical
histories.
· The HBDI International Type I Diabetes Database - a
database of information provided by more than 82,000 individuals in 6,700
families with members with diabetes. Information is available on
diabetes-related complications as well as many other medical conditions.
Customized family recruitment services are available.
Please e-mail hbdi@ndriresource.org or call (800) 345-4234 for more details or
to place an order.
HBDI is a division of the National Disease Research
Interchange (NDRI), a NIH-funded not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization that has
served the scientific community for 25 years with human tissues, cell lines and
DNA for use in a wide variety of research studies. In addition to the HBDI
biomaterials and data described above, NDRI provides investigators with human
organ and tissue procurement services. NDRI places nearly 20,000 normal and
diseased tissues each year with approved researchers. Unique programs exist to
serve researchers in a number of specialized areas with tumor samples, islet
cells, bone marrow, cord blood, stem cells and tissues from donors with rare
diseases and HIV. Contact us at 800-222-6374, email
research@ndriresource.org, or
visit our website at
www.ndriresource.org
to learn more about the availability of tissues for research through these
programs.

|
March 26 & 27, 2007
Busch Campus Center
Rutgers University
The
Office of Research & Sponsored Programs and University Human
Resources are pleased to offer the Departmental Research Administrator
Conference, Part II. It’s a follow-up and builds upon the concepts
presented in DA 101 which was presented at Rutgers in the Fall of 2004.
The completion of DA101 is not required to participate in DA 201.
The conference is a two-day program lead by
Society of Research Administrators (SRA) faculty from across the
country. Participants will receive classroom instruction by a faculty of
five individuals, engage in focused discussions, and participate in

Financial planning
and reporting
-
Contracting
approaches
Each participant will receive a comprehensive
reference notebook. The Departmental Administrators Resource Book is
