General Grants Program

The sponsor offers funding to support and promote the creation, performance and study of music. Grants generally range from $500 to $5,000. The purpose of the grants program is to support and promote the creation, performance and study of music. There is an emphasis on classical, jazz, and the musical theatre genres and on contemporary American music in general. Applications may be submitted by publicly supported non-profit organizations that have a history of substantial commitment to music. In general, the Foundation supports organizations with budgets under $1,500,000. Organizations with budgets of $1,500,000 or larger may be considered for funding if their primary mission is to promote or serve new music or composers or if they are applying for a unique project which directly supports living composers or new music. Preference will be given to organizations which: have a history of performing or fostering appreciation of contemporary American music; have made a significant contribution to the field of new music in the past and are likely to continue to contribute in the future; have attracted and sustained a committed audience or constituency; are responsibly and effectively managed; and have an unblemished history of support for the rights of composers and for copyright in general.

Various Programs

The BMI Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1985, is dedicated to encouraging the creation, performance and study of music through awards, scholarships, internships, grants, and commissions. The Foundation also awards grants on an annual basis that are directed primarily to not-for-profit music organizations from around the country. 2007 Summer Institute for English Language Educators from South Africa

American institutions of higher education having an acknowledged reputation in the field of English as a Second Language (ESL) and in curriculum design may apply to develop and deliver a six- week summer program for approximately twenty-eight English language educators from South Africa. The Summer Institute should be programmed to encompass about 45 days and should begin on or about June 11, 2007. A variation in start date, up to one week beyond June 11, 2007, will be considered if it is necessitated by the host institution's academic calendar. The first five weeks of the program will consist of academic coursework specializing in project-based ESL materials development and teaching methodology focusing on three theme-based areas: HIV-AIDS, Civic Education and Civil Society, and Economics/Entrepreneurship. The Institute will include instruction in classroom management and curriculum design to support these ESL theme-based projects at the secondary and tertiary levels. The host institution, with the help of participants, will develop a website featuring program information and resource materials. The sixth week will consist of an escorted cultural and educational visit to Washington DC.

The purpose of the FI Projects program is to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self- sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities; and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. FI projects carry out either research activities or development activities. NIDRR makes two types of grants under the FI Projects program: Research grants (CFDA 84.133G-1) and development grants (CFDA 84.133G-2). Public Service Award

The Samuel Huntington Public Service Award provides a $10,000 stipend to a graduating college senior to pursue public service anywhere in the world. The Award allows recipients to engage in a meaningful public service activity for one year before proceeding on to graduate school or a career. Students are encouraged to develop their own proposals for public service in this country or abroad. The proposal may encompass any activity that furthers the public good. It can be undertaken by the student alone or working through established charitable, religious, educational, governmental, or other public service organizations. All graduating students from accredited colleges in the U.S. are invited to apply. Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program for Undergraduate Students

In July 2006, President Bush announced the creation of the ``Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program.'' The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Branch for the Study of the U.S., will administer this program. Recently graduated high school seniors and undergraduates completing the first and second years of university will participate in intensive, thematic institutes, which will enhance their understanding of the United States, while developing their leadership skills. The Branch will sponsor a total of 150 Iraqi undergraduate student leaders over a two-year period during the summers of 2007 and 2008. In each of these years, the institutes for the ``Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program for Undergraduate Students'' should provide 75 undergraduate student leaders, aged 18-20, with an integrated and imaginatively designed program through four institutes running concurrently at different U.S. host institutions. The program will consist of an academic component that includes leadership training and community service, as well as an educational travel component in the United States.

The Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE) Integrative Programs Section (IPS) is soliciting proposals to identify an organization to manage the construction contract of the Alaska Region Research Vessel (ARRV) using the existing NSF-funded design, and once constructed, manage the vessel operations to support NSF and other Federally funded science activities. The ARRV design was completed in 2004 through a grant made to the University of Alaska. As designed, the vessel will be a 236 foot multipurpose oceanographic research ship capable of operating in seasonal sea ice and open ocean regions around Alaska, mainly in the Chukchi, Beaufort and Bering Seas as well as the Gulf of Alaska, coastal southeast Alaska and Prince William Sound.

Proposals are invited for rigorous empirical research from all fields of the behavioral and social sciences. Proposals are especially encouraged for empirical studies that address the following topics: Heterosexuals ’ attitudes and behaviors toward lesbians and gay men, including prejudice, stigma, and violence; Family and workplace issues relevant to lesbians and gay men, including experiences with and responses to prejudice and discrimination; intimate relationships, marriage, and domestic partnership; intra-family relationships; and parenting; and Special concerns of sectors of the lesbian and gay population that have historically been underrepresented in scientific research, including racial and ethnic minorities, youth, the elderly, and people with disabilities. All applicants must have doctoral degrees or equivalent (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., Psy.D.) at the time that the application is submitted. The applicant must be affiliated with a college, university, or research institute that meets US federal requirements for administering research awards. Applications are allowed from individuals outside the United States provided that they have a doctoral-level degree and are affiliated with a college, university, or institute that has established peer-reviewed procedures for safeguarding the welfare of research participants.

Annual Sustainable Fisheries Leadership Awards for 2007

NOAA has established the Sustainable Fisheries Leadership Awards Program to recognize outstanding performances, achievements and leadership by industries, organizations and individuals who promote best stewardship practices for the sustainable use of living marine resources and ecosystems, and who have fostered change and inspired a stewardship ethic within their community. This notice solicits nominations of qualified candidates for the second annual Sustainable Fisheries Leadership Awards in six award categories listed in this Notice. NMFS has partnered with the Fish for the Future Foundation to collect the nominations.
