Assistance with Computer Searches for Alternatives Question 25 of the Animal Use Protocol Review form and Question 5a of the Request for Continuing Review form require investigators to list sources used to determine that non-painful alternatives are not available, if the proposed procedures might cause more than momentary pain or distress. (It is the USDA's position that terminal surgery is a potentially painful procedure with the pain alleviated by anesthesia, depending on the plane of anesthesia, and that it is considered a painful procedure which is alleviated by drugs.) Investigators may obtain assistance in conducting computer searches to help address this question, by contacting Helen Hoffman, Biological Sciences Librarian, from the Library of Science and Medicine. Helen can be reached at hoffman@waksman.rutgers.edu or at 732-445-3855. Hopefully, this service will be also useful in assisting investigators with their research papers. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
