This 3-hour workshop will acquaint faculty members, especially those in
humanities, education and social sciences, with the strategies and skills
necessary to write successful fellowship grant applications. Both junior and
senior faculty will benefit from attending, especially faculty who are planning
research leaves within the next two to three years. Advanced graduate students
also will benefit, although the focus will be on fellowships for regular faculty
rather than for doctoral students. Methods used will include lecture, handouts
and examples of successful applications and a list of selected fellowship
opportunities. The workshop will present strategies for planning and writing
effective fellowship applications, including:
- The differences between fellowship applications and regular research
grants.
- The differences between residential and non-residential fellowships.
- How to plan and structure the grant narrative.
- How to select appropriate reviewers.
- How to develop a fellowship curriculum vitae.
- How to identify residential fellowship venues.
- How to determine when a faculty member is ready for a fellowship.
